This year, I wanted to have more of a specific theme or stance in my works. Last year in art 4, I didn't really know what I was doing; I was going for a comic book or pop art style with a focus on typography, but now I wanted to gear it towards something I'm passionate in. I started off with imagination or connection last year, so in this work, I'm still tying that back in, taking inspiration by contemporary artists and rioters, but from a pop lense.
My art piece, or summer piece, I was inspired by robots vs ai, and the issues with that and humanity. In this one, I wanted to have humanity, or "corporate" America vs. the Americans. I didn't want to focus on the riots so much to make the idea more subtle, trying to gain attraction of the meaning in the clothes, "America Has A Problem," inspired by Beyonce's clothes during her tour, and the inverse colored American flag. I kept the pop art idea since it has been my art style for a long time, but I also wanted to juxtapose the commercialized idea that our riots for democracy have been violent, when in reality, it is just people unionizing as a community.
In terms of art and difficulty, this was a challenging piece to do. I usually don't do series works, but after my last one, I tried to do it again but this time with three. I also wanted to work on more figures, since I typically focus on a few instead. I wish they were a little more dynamic, but it is hard getting the reference pictures.
Next work, I want to focus on finding a color scheme. Every piece I've done sort of struggles with that, so I think I will try to research on that. I definitely want to continue this theme of politics and rights though, which I might be looking into taking inspiration from American propaganda posters.
