I decided to do something a little bit different than what I've been doing recently. I decided to be more openly political with this one, which I wasn't sure was a good idea because I was scared what others would think or if the school would even let me hang it. But I wanted to focus more on content, and specifically gun addiction. I was doing this because I noticed the increase in gun violence in schools, allowed to happen as a result of our lack of gun laws. In my art piece, I wanted to critique this by mixing gun addiction with smoking addiction. I wanted to give this a 1950s kind of look, with the people looking like a stereotypical white couple, like Marilyn Monroe aesthetic.

Doing this with POSCA was hard. I wanted to be more realistic looking with this one, but still have a bit of a pop art vibe to it. This was definitely one of my hardest pieces, mainly because of how many layers it took and the amount of feedback/ideas I had. i got some ideas from Shepard Fairey, but next time, I would have to plan out the details first. Also drawing two big figures is not what I'm used to. It all worked out though. I still need to learn how to do lighting for sure. Considering I didn't really use references for this, it's not as bad as it could've been. I think the hair was the best part of it.

I wasn't sure about what to put for the text because the text would make it way more obvious about the politics, but honestly, might as well go all in with it. Now, it looks more more like a MAGAzine. Get it? I'm glad I added the random stars and flag, it adds more to it for sure. I originally wanted to leave the background just red, but this works much better and I think elevates it. The next time I ever do this though, I'm getting a wooden canvas though.
