Jaune Quick-to-See Smith is a contemporary Native American artist from the Salish and Kootenai Tribes. She works mainly in painting, collage, and mixed media. Her art often talks about Native American identity, history, politics, and the environment.

Her work has been shown in major museums like the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), and the National Gallery of Art. She has received many awards for her influence on contemporary art.

Many of her artworks use maps, newspaper clippings, and bold colors. I like how her art feels layered and busy, because it shows how complicated history and identity can be. Some pieces feel chaotic, but I think that is on purpose to show conflict and struggle. Her use of collage makes the work feel powerful and expressive.

She passed earlier this year, but her art pieces that surround her theme of indigenous and native narratives are still being showcased in places like the Garth Greenan Gallery in New York. Jaune Quick-to-See Smith inspires me to use art to tell stories and share messages, not just make something look nice. Her story reminds me on how to use collages with purpose and making it in a natural way with meaning.
