I started off this project after my Asian art one. In my Asian one, I wrote it in Vietnamese to connect it back to my culture and background. I didn't have the same connection for this, but I talked to other students and teachers, read a book, and took the stuff I learned in former classes and my AP AFAM class to make this work. I made this piece to continue off of my theme of minorities who made up America in these American propaganda posters. I really liked making this one. My friends helped me to make this piece work and without them, I would definitely not finish this on time. I had a couple friends who were my references, so shout out to Nate and Lyntreal. I was in a couple classes, rushing to get the collage done. It's always been my hardest part with my pieces, not even the drawing part. But my friends helped me to tear them apart and that was nice. It was really fun and kind of a bonding moment where we would shout out random historical or contemporary figures for me to print out. It took a while for me to get used to the ripped out and natural look with the newspaper, since the last one I just cut them out. I like the juxtaposition of the two though. This one I glazed it in the end, not sure if that was the best decision, but my classmates liked it. Overall, I improved a lot I think, in both skills and content. I leaned more on the graffiti and pop art style with this one, and I'm glad I did. This was my second time using POSCA but now I know how to make it work like actual paint while still giving that comic feel.
